12 agencies in the directory say they recruit English teachers for international schools, including FlyTeachers, Educators Overseas and Worldteachers Recruitment.
An English teacher post in an international school is not the same job as teaching English as a foreign language. The first is a subject specialism that leads to qualifications such as GCSE English language, English literature, the Cambridge equivalents or the IB language and literature courses. The second is a different market with its own qualifications.
This page is about the first. It helps you tell the two apart in a job advert.
Read the advert for the pupils' first language. In schools where most pupils are learning in English as an additional language, the English department often includes language support. In schools with many native speakers the focus moves to literature and analysis.
Ask how the timetable is split between those, and whether you will have an EAL specialist alongside you.
Schools following the English model usually look for QTS or an equivalent. The Department for Education's iQTS route is open to people who live outside England, includes a minimum of 24 weeks in a school, and requires English at IELTS 6.5 or equivalent if your degree was not in English.
IB posts leave it to the school to decide what a language teacher needs, according to the IB, and its educator certificates are a possible extra but not a licence.
Cambridge International reports more than 10,000 schools in over 160 countries, and many of them teach English. The ICEF Monitor summary of ISC Research data notes that over a third of international schools offer bilingual instruction, so some English posts sit inside a dual-language programme.

English as an additional language. It means teaching pupils whose first language is not English, and is widely valued in international schools.
